Mythology and the Psyche Series

Continuing my posts about Joseph Campbell and the hero’s journey, starting today I’m beginning a series about the role of the psyche in mythology. This is, for me, the missing element that separates stories who use the hero’s journey simply as a plot outline, and mythology (for the gap between the two is often as wide as opposite ends of the universe). It will be covered in several posts as it incorporates a lot of different, and often complex, concepts. But ultimately, it will build toward an in-depth look at the hero journey itself as this is the emotional foundation for understanding the purpose of the myth.
